Sport Projects
Custom Sports EquipmentResearch a piece of sport equipment that currently exists. Analyze and reverse engineer the product. Design and create a custom model of the product (hydrofoil, surfboard, tennis racket, etc.). Keep a record of your process and create a portfolio of your brainstorming, designs, research, sketches, plan of procedures, materials, cost analysis, prototypes, tests, improvements, failures, , etc.

Create a New Sports ProductStep 1: Research the company IDEO or a similar type of company. Analyze and reverse engineer their process of improving products.
Step 2: Research a sports product or equipment that currently exists. Analyze and reverse engineer the product. Develop improvements on the it. Create a new product or redesigned equipment for a sport (new ski binding, football helmet, better racket, tracking for coach/iPad so the coach can reevaluate plays, etc). Keep a record of your process and create a portfolio of your brainstorming, designs, research, sketches, plan of procedures, materials, cost analysis, prototypes, tests, improvements, failures, patent application, etc. |
Sports AnalysisStep 1: Research the process of sports analytics as in the movie Moneyball--not just ESPN sports analysis. In other words, What makes a team/player successful in your chosen sport? Is it something that is quantifiable or duplicable? Analyze and reverse engineer their process of improving a team or player's performance.
Step 2: Analyze your own swing, kick, throw, etc. and Develop improvements on it. Practice and keep a record of your process, improvements, analyses, tests, designs, research, sketches, failures, etc. |

Design a ShoeStep 1: Research a professional shoe designer like Tinker Hatfield. Analyze and reverse engineer their process of creating shoes.
Step 2: Design your own shoe using techniques you've researched. Keep a record of your brainstorming, research, sketches, etc. Record your process. Create a portfolio with designs, prototypes, improvements, tests, failures, etc.
